Pasay City was one of the original four cities of Metro Manila. Due to its close proximity to Manila, it fast became an urban town during the American Period.

Among the many attractions in the city are the CCP Complex, on which are the located the Cultural Center of the Philippines, the Folk Arts Theater, and the Philippine World Trade Center. Pasay became a city on June 21, 1947 and was renamed Rizal City, after Jose Rizal, the country's national hero. In 1949, it was renamed back to Pasay.
