Patrick van Rensburg is an African educationalist who founded the Brigades Movement in Botswana, and the Foundation for Education with Production which is active in South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe. Van Rensburg was South African Vice-Consul in the Belgian Congo (now Democratic Republic of Congo) until 1956, when he resigned as a protest against South Africa's apartheid policies of racial discrimination. He joined the Liberal Party of South Africa and later moved to Bechuanaland (now Botswana). The title Consul has been used for official representatives of a state, outside its (metropolitan) territory, looking after its interests (a task normally largely transferred to the formal diplomacy) and, especially, those of its subjects, individuals as well as enterprises. ...
