Pattensen stieg zum Archidiakonat auf und erreichte schließlich seinen religiösen Höhepunkt zur Zeit der Reformation, als Antonius Corvinus als Landessuperintendent (auch Jeinsen war Sitz einer Superintendentur) hier seinen Amtssitz hatte.
Während dieser Zeit gilt Pattensen noch als wichtiger Versammlungsort vieler Landtage und verliert erst an Bedeutung, als der Sitz des Herzogs Georg von Calenberg nach Hannover verlegt wird.
Dezember 2004 gehörte Pattensen zum ehemaligen Regierungsbezirk Hannover, der wie alle anderen niedersächsischen Regierungsbezirke aufgelöst wurde.
