During the '05 general election Offer secured one of the largest vote swings in England, and therefore is now fighting for one of the most marginal seats in the country.


Offer managed a 3.2% increase in his vote[1], which was helped by the gains of the Liberal Democrat candidate, Mia Jones, who secured more than a 7% increase; however this increase was on a previously very small vote share. Russell's majority was cut from almost 7,000 to 915, which was the second largest swing to the Conservatives in the country[2]. In November 2006 the Chester Chronicle [3] reported that Offer had lost the confidence of his Association over his poor judgement. It also stated that the car he drove had been abandonded outside a Tory Councillors house and had a flat tyre and no tax (a criminal offence). The article suggested that Offer was to face deselection.
