Paul Xuereb was born in Rabat, Malta, on the 21st July, 1923, the son of Adeodate Xuereb, a teacher and playwright, and Maria Dolores Busuttil.
Paul Xuereb entered into politics in 1962, and contested the general election of that year when he was elected as Member of Parliament for the first time.
Throughout the past 29 years, Paul Xuereb was appointed by the Prime Minister as the Acting President of the Republic, following the end of term of Office of the third President of the Republic.
