Born in Toronto, Ontario, Zed is currently a member of the Liberal Party of Canada in the Canadian House of Commons. He represented the New Brunswick riding of Fundy—Royal from 1993 to 1997, when he was defeated by John Herron. He was reelected in 2006 for the riding of Saint John.
