Pawnee County is a county located in the state of Nebraska. As of 2000, the population is 3,087. Its county seat is Pawnee City6.
Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,121 km˛ (433 mi˛). 1,118 km˛ (432 mi˛) of it is land and 4 km˛ (1 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 0.32% water.
Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 3,087 people, 1,339 households, and 850 families residing in the county. The population density is 3/km˛ (7/mi˛). There are 1,587 housing units at an average density of 1/km˛ (4/mi˛). The racial makeup of the county is 98.87% White, 0.00% Black or African American, 0.19% Native American, 0.26% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.03% from other races, and 0.65% from two or more races. 0.68% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 1,339 households out of which 24.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.80% are married couples living together, 5.60% have a female householder with no husband present, and 36.50% are non-families. 32.90% of all households are made up of individuals and 20.20% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.27 and the average family size is 2.86.
