PEV may be identified and serotypes may be differentiated by using a virus neutralisation (VN) test, complement fixation test (1, 6) or indirect fluorescent antibody (IFA) test.
For serological diagnosis it is necessary to have standard strains of PEV serotypes propagated in cell cultures and hyperimmune serum monospecific for PEV types.
After establishing the cultivation of PEV virus on monolayers of porcine kidney cells (11), the virus propagated in vitro is used to prepare vaccine.
