The Treaty of Paris of 1814, signed on May 30, 1814, ended the war between France and the Sixth Coalition of the United Kingdom, Russia, Austria, Sweden and Prussia. It also enforced the abdication of Napoleon I. France's borders were restored to those of 1792 but there was little punitive action against France. The greater territorial reshaping of Europe was reserved for the Congress of Vienna.
Paris is the capital capital (also called capital city or political capital — although the latter phrase has an alternative meaning based on an alternative meaning of "capital") is the principal city or town associated with its government.
Paris, together with its suburbs and satellite cities, forms the Greater Paris metropolitan area A metropolitan area is a large population center consisting of a large city and its adjacent zone of influence, or of several neighboring cities or towns and adjoining areas, with one or more large cities serving as its hub or hubs.
At the 1999 census, the population of the city of Paris (excluding suburbs) was 2,125,246.
Paris is the capital city of France, as well as the capital of the Île-de-France région, whose territory encompasses Paris and its suburbs.
Paris is the third largest metropolitan area in Europe (after Moscow and London), and approximately the 20th most populous metropolitan area in the world.
Paris' role as a city in the new Europe is still in full evolution, as it fell short (if only by a hair) of becoming Europe's monetary capital in favour of Frankfurt; Today Europe's agriculture (including France's of course) looks to Brussels for its politics and reglementation.
