Technically, it is a sound, not a bay, since it is open to larger bodies of water at both ends. It connects to Eastchester Bay at the south, and opens onto Long Island Sound and City Island Harbor at the east.
Pelham Bay was originally larger than it is today. Approximately one third of the original bay was filled in to create Orchard Beach in the [1930]'s.
The PelhamBay neighborhood is generally bounded by Pelham Parkway South to the north, the Bruckner Expressway to the east, Middletown Road to the south and the Hutchinson River Parkway to the west.
Today, the PelhamBay rezoning area is characterized by low- to mid-density residential development comprised of large one- and two-family detached homes on the inner blocks and apartment buildings along the wider avenues.
PelhamBay is located just north of the Throgs Neck Area, which was rezoned in September of 2004 to contextual or low-density zoning districts when it was designated a Lower Density Growth Management Area (LDGMA).
Description: PelhamBay Golf Course located just off the Hutchinson River Parkway near City Island, PelhamBay Gold Course is a great Scottish links style golf course with tricky putting greens.
The name was changed to Pelham in 1936 the same year Split Rock Golf Course and the clubhouse was built.
PelhamBay is quite special given it was the first 18 hole course I set foot on, and it happened earlier today.
