Peligro (Danger) is Colombian born musician Shakira's second album. It was released in 1993, through Sony Colombia, when Shakira was just 15. This album fared little better than her 1991 debut effort Magia, and although Sony saw her artistic potential, Shakira decided to take a break from recording and graduate from high school. The recording itself is a relatively good collection of self-penned songs but is marred but a lack of cohesive production. The title originated after Shakira was turned down from appearing at the OTI Music Festival in Spain, because she was underage. Shakira - Biography - AOL Music (932 words)
Noted for her aggressive, rock-influenced approach, Shakira maintained an extraordinary degree of creative control over her music, especially for a female artist; she wrote or co-wrote nearly all of her own material, and in the process gained a reputation as one of Latin music's most ambitiously poetic lyricists.
Shakira wrote her first song at age eight, began entering (and winning) talent competitions at age ten, and started learning the guitar at age 11; one story runs that around this age, she was kicked out of her school choir for singing too forcefully.
Shakira dyed her long brown hair blonde, romanced Antonio de la Rua (son of the former president of Argentina), and went to work on her first (mostly) English-language album, Laundry Service.
