PembrokeCollege is one of the constituent colleges of the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.
Founded in 1624, the College was named after the third Earl of Pembroke, who was at the time Chancellor of the University and the patron of William Shakespeare.
The main buildings of the College date mainly from the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries, and are built of Cotswold limestone.
PembrokeCollege is a college of the University of Cambridge, home to over 600 students and fellows, and is the third oldest of the existing colleges.
On Christmas Eve 1347, Edward III granted Marie de St Pol, widow of the Earl of Pembroke, the licence for the foundation of a new educational establishment in the young university at Cambridge.
The college was later renamed Pembroke House, and finally became PembrokeCollege in 1856.
