Penketh is a Civil Parish and suburb in the West of Warrington Borough, in the United Kingdom. It is about 2 miles to the West of Warrington town centre. Penketh now has one of the highest rates of council tax in Warrington, largely thanks to the fact it has leisure centre (Kingfisher Leisure Centre) owned by the parish council and therefore payed for by the parish council. History

Penketh was originally part of Prescot parish but became a chapelry and then a separate parish. It grew due to the crossing over the Mersey at Fidlers Ferry and the building of the Sankey Canal. The area was entirely rural and agricultural until well into the 20th century, though a tannery and shipyard were established in the 19th century. What follows is a history of Penketh in the 20th Century this history was submitted by John Ditchfield and is based on the recollections of Frank Thomas a Penketh resident with memories going back some 80 years.
Mr Pusill owned the Warrington to Penketh bus service which was called the "Suburban Bus Service" and the spare land at the end of Stocks lane, next to the church, or opposite the "Late Shop" was used as a bus terminus for the Suburban Bus Service.
Further along Chapel Rd was the "Penketh Leather Manufacturing Co." known locally as "The Cutting Shop" where shoe soles were cut from the leather produced at the tannery.
