Encyclopedia > Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints

The Pentacostal Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, also known as the PLDS Church, is a sect of Mormonism organized in 1994-1995 by a study group called the "LDS Scripture Readers", led by Michael Bethel, composed initially of independent Mormons and members of various Mormon sects. The church is headquartered in Kenner, Louisiana.

The church accepts the Bible and the Book of Mormon as scripture, but rejects many other elements of Mormonism, including the Doctrine and Covenants, the Mormon Godhead, the First Presidency, and the Aaronic and Melchizedek Priesthoods. The church believes in the imminent Second Coming of Jesus, and that the church will play a central role in uniting all other Latter Day Saints into a common body.

Latter Day Saint - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (1195 words)
Latter Day Saints trace their religious heritage through Joseph Smith, Jr., and teach that he restored the original Christian church, which Latter Day Saints believe had disappeared from the earth after a period of apostasy.
Latter Day Saints consider themselves to be "saints" in the earliest Christian sense of the word, meaning members of the original church which they believe Jesus organized before his death in the First Century, CE.
Latter Day Saints are sometimes also referred to as Mormons (a nickname taken from the title of the Book of Mormon).
