According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 423 square miles (1,095 km²), of which, 415 square miles (1,075 km²) of it is land and 8 square miles (21 km²) of it (1.89%) is water. Perry County was formed in 1819 from parts of Humphreys and Hickman counties.
