Encyclopedia > Pete Sandoval

Pete Sandoval is a noted drummer in the extreme metal world. He is known for his blinding double bass drum speed and technical proficiency. His first important band was the grindcore band Terrorizer, formed in mid 1980s, where he began to demonstrate some of his speed. Extreme metal is a broad term of heavy metal music genres that are characterized by more aggressive styles, such as Black metal, Death metal, Grindcore, and Thrash metal. ... Pete was invited to join the death metal band Morbid Angel, after which Terrorizer broke up. He is still known as one of the fastest drummers in metal, though some say he has slowed down since his peak with Morbid Angel. He is one of the few drummers that plays a blast beat with the 1 foot technique. Some cite Pete as the drummer most responsible for introducing rhythmically precise blast beats (i.e. one set of bass-snare-bass-snare per count at 16th note tempos), as opposed to previous drummers many of whom had played blast beats simply as an alternation of bass and snare hits as fast as possible. Pete is also among the first extreme metal drummers to champion the use of acoustic drum triggers, a practice once scorned and unfairly labeled "cheating". Pete continues to maintain and improve upon the fluid, extreme percussive formula he helped create, earning the title "Pete the Feet". Interestingly, Pete had never used double bass drums before joining Morbid Angel. He had to practice day and night in order to get his feet up to speed, and, amazingly, recorded the blistering Altars of Madness record within only a couple of months of joining Morbid Angel. According to Morbid Angel guitarist Trey Azagthoth, the band would occasionally walk in on Pete passed out on his drum set. After being woken up, he would immediately say, "Time to get back to work!" Altars of Madness is Morbid Angels debut album, and a milestone in the history of Death Metal for its deep and lasting impact on the genre. ... Trey Azagthoth [ATZ-ig-tott] (Real name George Emmanuel III, born 1965, Tampa, Florida) is an American musician. ...

Pete once belived he had a son, whom he credited his work on Domination to. As later revealed in his personal thank you-note that his "son" was actually the result of his one of his girlfriends affairs on the side of Pete. Domination is the fifth full-length studio album by death metal band Morbid Angel. ...
