Born in Windsor, Ontario, the son of Andrew and Mildred (Beresford Howe) Cory, he was educated at the University of Western Ontario (Assumption) receiving his B.A. in 1947 and at Osgoode Hall Law School receiving his LL.B. in 1950. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1950. As a pilot in the RCAF, he served overseas with 6th Bomber Group. He was appointed to the Queen's Council in 1963. The Honourable Peter deCarteret Cory, former Canadian Supreme Court Justice and distinguished international jurist, was appointed as the eleventh Chancellor of York University.
Justice Peter Cory, a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School, was appointed to the Supreme Court in 1989.
Cory reported his findings in October 2003 to the governments of Ireland and the United Kingdom, urging judicial inquiries into several of the cases.
