Encyclopedia > Peter Hoekstra

Pete Hoekstra (born October 30, 1953), American politician, is a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives since 1993, representing the 2nd District of Michigan.


Born in Groningen, the Netherlands, Hoekstra emigrated to Michigan at the age of 3 with his family. He earned a B.A. from Hope College in Holland, Michigan in 1975 and an M.B.A. from the University of Michigan in 1977.


In the 108th Congress, he serves on the Education and the Workforce Committee, the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the Select Committee on Intelligence. Congressman Hoekstra was recently selected to replace retiring Congressman and then-CIA Director-designate Porter Goss as Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee.
