History
The Peterborough Petes started play October 1st 1956, when the team was moved from Kitchener (Kitchener Green Shirts) and it was announced that it would become a farm team for the NHL Montreal Canadiens. NHL can also be an abbreviation for National Historic Landmark or Non-Hodgkins lymphoma. ...
The Montreal Canadiens are the oldest established National Hockey League franchise, and one of the most successful in all of North American sports history. ...
The first game was played on Sunday November 4th 1956. Their original uniforms were in the colours of the Montreal Canadiens, and were adorned with the logo for a local shipping company TPT (Toronto Peterborough Transport). In the late 50's the Pete's became a powerhouse of talent. The team name officially became the 'Peterborough Petes Hockey Club' in 1966. Moreover, it was not until 1974 that the team adopted the now famous maroon and white uniform with the still in use Petes logo. Over 140 players have moved up to the NHL after playing with the team, which makes it the worlds largest supplier of hockey players of any junior team anywhere in the world. In January 2000, a new '3rd' jersey was introduced.
Peterborough Memorial Centre The Peterborough Memorial Centre, home of the Peterborough Petes, was constructed in 1956, is a single pad arena. It's most noted for having a large stage to the south end of the arena, along with its large portrait of the Queen. It is named in honour of the many war veterans who came from the region. The Peterborough Memorial Centre is a 4,329-seat multi-purpose arena in Peterborough, Ontario Canada. ...
Along with hockey, the arena has hosted many events from trade shows, summer fairs, to lacrosse games and corporate Christmas celebrations for large industries such as Canadian General Electric. In 2003, the Memorial Centre was renovated adding 24 luxury box suites, improved concessions, a licensed restaurant, new seats, boards, scoreboard and the addition of air conditioning. Capacity: 3,863 - additional 1,000 seats can be placed on the arena floor for concerts.
