Petersburg is a city located in Monroe County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 1,157.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.2 km² (0.5 mi²). 1.2 km² (0.5 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the census² of 2000, there are 1,157 people, 423 households, and 307 families residing in the city. The population density is 971.1/km² (2,497.8/mi²). There are 442 housing units at an average density of 371.0/km² (954.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 96.80% White, 0.35% African American, 0.43% Native American, 0.09% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.35% from other races, and 1.99% from two or more races. 1.12% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 423 households out of which 39.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.4% are married couples living together, 9.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.2% are non-families. 23.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.74 and the average family size is 3.23.

In the city the population is spread out with 30.5% under the age of 18, 9.2% from 18 to 24, 32.1% from 25 to 44, 19.5% from 45 to 64, and 8.7% who are 65 years of age or older.
