Petersburg is a village located in Boone County, Nebraska. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 374.


Geography

Petersburg is located at 41°51'10" North, 98°4'48" West (41.852867, -98.080131)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.0 km˛ (0.4 mi˛). 1.0 km˛ (0.4 mi˛) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 374 people, 165 households, and 102 families residing in the village. The population density is 390.3/km˛ (1,013.5/mi˛). There are 183 housing units at an average density of 191.0/km˛ (495.9/mi˛). The racial makeup of the village is 97.59% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.87% from other races, and 0.53% from two or more races. 1.87% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 165 households out of which 28.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.5% are married couples living together, 6.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.6% are non-families. 37.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 26.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.25 and the average family size is 2.97.


In the village the population is spread out with 27.3% under the age of 18, 5.1% from 18 to 24, 19.3% from 25 to 44, 20.3% from 45 to 64, and 28.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 44 years. For every 100 females there are 86.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.9 males.


The median income for a household in the village is $29,688, and the median income for a family is $39,792. Males have a median income of $29,375 versus $21,964 for females. The per capita income for the village is $17,312. 8.8% of the population and 3.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 3.8% of those under the age of 18 and 17.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
