Phi Kappa Phi is one of the oldest, most prestigious and selective multi-disciplined honor societies in the United States. Membership is by invitation only and is reserved for the top 7.5 percent of university juniors, top 10 percent of seniors, and outstanding graduate students, alumni, faculty and professional staff. Approximately 34,000 new members are added each year from the nearly 300 chapters in the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Philippines. History

Phi Kappa Phi was founded in 1897 at the University of Maine as Lambda Sigma Eta (later renamed to Phi Kappa Phi]) under the leadership of ungraduate student Marcus L. Urann. In all, the society was founded by 10 senior students, two faculty members, and the university president. The goal was the creation of an honor society, unlike any other, which drew the best and brightest members from all academic disciplines. 1897 was a common year starting on Friday (see link for calendar). ... Mission

Phi Kappa Phi's mission is "to recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others." It's motto is Philosophía Krateítõ Phõtôn: "Let the love of learning rule humanity." In pursuit of this mission, the Society awards more than $700,000 in national and local scholarships annually, as well as grants and Graduate Fellowships.

Initiation can cost around $70, depending on your chapter and the number of guests taken to the initiation ceremony.

Admission to the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter in accordance with the bylaws of both the chapter and the national society.
To be considered for membership in Phi Kappa Phi, a student must be in the top 10 percent of the senior or graduate class or a second-semester junior in the top 7.5 percent of his/her class.
