The elections were supposed to happen on November 12, 1945 but was moved due to a major rehabilitiation after the end of World War II. Incumbent President Sergio Osmeña ran for a full term after the untimely death of President Manuel Quezon in 1944. However, he was defeated by Senate President Manuel Roxas. His running mate, Senator Eulogio Rodriguez was also defeated by Senate President Pro Tempore Elpidio Quirino. The Liberal Wing was founded by Manuel Roxas after a dispute on the administration party over trade and security policies.
