Phrygian Period in Anatolia (916 words)
Later in the Hellenistic period, Phrygian lands were settled by Galatians, a tribe from eastern Europe, and renamed as Galatia, nevertheless this territory was, for a long time, known as Phrygia even later in the Hellenistic times.
Scholars believe that Phrygians established themselves as a strong and powerful kingdom only after 8th C. Because, from 8th C. BCE and on, Assyrian annals mention a nation under the name Mushki that is believed to be the same people as Phrygians.
As Phrygian state was at its peak, under the king Midas, Anatolia was invaded by a new flog of people.

Their independent Phrygian kingdom of the 8th and 7th c BC maintained close contacts with the Aryans in the east and the Greeks in the west.
Phrygians built the largest mound (tumulus) in Gordion known as the Tumulus of Midas; it is 53 meters high and 300 meters wide.
The Arslantas rock monument near Afyon and the ruins of Midas near Eskisehir are among the most important Phrygian monuments in Anatolia, and are where the Phrygians worshipped their major deity Cybele and her lover Attis.
