Biography

When Pilar was 10 years old she landed her first acting part in the TV series Juguemos A Cantar, her career moved along with her becoming a member of Fresas Con Crema, she was only with the group for a short period of time. In 1989 she joined the group Garibaldi at age 17, she spent a few years with the group which became very popular during the early 90s. During the mid 90s she expanded her career as an actress when she began to appear in soap operas. Also in the mid 90s she left Garibaldi to pursue a solo career. By 1996 she released her debut album Son Del Corazon. Garibaldi was a Mexican group of young men and women, wearing a very free version of the traditional charro costume while singing modern songs, causing some controversy. ...

In 2001 Pilar remerged into the music scene with her second album Desahogo. The album debuted at No. 2 on the Latin Billboard Chart and sold over 200,000 copies in the United States reaching Platinum status. The album produced the hit single "Quitame Ese Hombre", which hit No. 1 and earned Pilar various award nominations. The song spent 11 weeks at the top of the U.S. Latin charts and would go on to spend a massive 13 weeks at the top of the World Latin Chart. Following the huge success of her second album she released her third album in 2004 entitled Pilar. The album was a failure debuting at No. 34 and sold poorly. Pilar Montenegro (born Maria Lopez August 1, 1972) is a Mexican singer who began her career as a member of Fresas Con Crema, which was very short lived.
In late 1989, Pilar was selected to become a member of Garibaldi to replace Anghel.
Montenegro was one of several Telemundo superstars featured at the 2004 Telemundo fan fest at Universal Studios in Los Angeles, alongside Maria Celeste Arraras, Ana Maria Polo, Mauricio Zeilic, Mara Croatto, Mauricio Salas and many others.

Montenegro is supporting the project with a gay club tour sponsored by Club Papi and the Granda Group of Companies, who have produced similar events with Latin divas Lucia Mendez, Fey, La India and Mariana Seoane.
Montenegro also honed her acting chops on novellas — those wildly popular Mexican soap operas — including Volver a Empezar, Marisol, Gotita de Amor and Te Amare en Silencio.
Montenegro recently competed on "Bailando Por un Sueno", Mexico’s answer to "Dancing with the Stars", and she is debating the sound of her next disc.
