Pilots are large creatures, with a multi-limbed upper half (4 arms that grow back slowly when cut off), and a lower half adapted to bond with a Leviathan spacecraft.
Pilots for bonding are chosen from among the population by their Elders, and are carefully screened for maturity and ability.
Pilots possess the ability to multitask several thoughts/tasks at the same time, an ability needed as without their supervision none of the systems needed to substain the crew of the Leviathan will continue working for long though the Leviathan's vital system are not affected by the absence of a Pilot.
