Pine Hill is a borough located in Camden County, New Jersey. As of the 2000 census, the borough had a total population of 10,880.


Geography

Pine Hill is located at 39°47'6" North, 74°59'8" West (39.785014, -74.985523)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 10.3 km˛ (4.0 mi˛). 10.2 km˛ (3.9 mi˛) of it is land and 0.1 km˛ (0.04 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 0.76% water.


Pine Hill borders Berlin Borough, Clementon Borough, Gloucester Township, Lindenwold, Pine Valley, Winslow.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 10,880 people, 4,214 households, and 2,743 families residing in the borough. The population density is 1,068.9/km˛ (2,768.4/mi˛). There are 4,444 housing units at an average density of 436.6/km˛ (1,130.8/mi˛). The racial makeup of the borough is 76.79% White, 18.35% African American, 0.28% Native American, 1.41% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 1.21% from other races, and 1.95% from two or more races. 3.64% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 4,214 households out of which 35.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.9% are married couples living together, 16.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 34.9% are non-families. 27.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.58 and the average family size is 3.18.


In the borough the population is spread out with 27.2% under the age of 18, 9.2% from 18 to 24, 34.9% from 25 to 44, 20.2% from 45 to 64, and 8.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 33 years. For every 100 females there are 90.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.8 males.


The median income for a household in the borough is $42,035, and the median income for a family is $50,040. Males have a median income of $36,277 versus $29,826 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $18,613. 7.1% of the population and 5.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 8.9% of those under the age of 18 and 6.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

The Borough of Pine Hill is 4.1 square miles and the 1990 census listed the population at 9,854.
Pine Hill was considered to have a healthy climate because it was high, had clean air, pine trees, sand and was very dry.
The first meeting of the Mayor and Council for the Borough of Pine Hill was held in an old school house on Sixth Avenue on June 5, 1929.
