The gated entrance to the private community of Pine Mountain Lake lies eight tenths of a mile to the north and east of Groveland. The main gate is located on Ferretti Road, which partly circumscribes the development. The community is built around a reservoir impounding Big Creek. A point somewhere within the mass of the lake sufficient to find the place on a map is 37°51′06″N, 120°11′48″W. When full, the reservoir level is about 2,500-2,550 feet above mean sea level.
