Pine Ridge is located at 43°1'28" North, 102°33'26" West (43.024412, -102.557219)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 8.2 km² (3.2 mi²). 7.9 km² (3.1 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.54% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 3,171 people, 688 households, and 593 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 400.1/km² (1,035.4/mi²). There are 742 housing units at an average density of 93.6/km² (242.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP is 3.72% White, 0.09% African American, 94.20% Native American, 0.03% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 0.50% from other races, and 1.36% from two or more races. 1.80% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 688 households out of which 53.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 32.1% are married couples living together, 40.7% have a female householder with no husband present, and 13.8% are non-families. 10.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 2.2% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 4.40 and the average family size is 4.63.


In the CDP the population is spread out with 46.9% under the age of 18, 11.0% from 18 to 24, 26.1% from 25 to 44, 12.4% from 45 to 64, and 3.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 20 years. For every 100 females there are 100.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.8 males.


The median income for a household in the CDP is $21,089, and the median income for a family is $20,170. Males have a median income of $26,875 versus $25,516 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $6,067. 61.0% of the population and 49.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 74.6% of those under the age of 18 and 18.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
