Pineville is a town in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina located between Charlotte and York County, South Carolina. It is perhaps most famous as the birthplace of James Knox Polk. It is mostly a quiet town, but it does have some industries; the Cone Mills textile plant was until recently here, and behind the town hall and post office a chemical plant makes a continuous drone. The town serves the nearby rural population; there is still Blankenship's Feed and Seed on Main Street next to the railroad tracks. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 3,449.
