Plague 99 (ISBN: 0152624295) is a book written by Jean Ure. It deals with a pandemic that shuts down London and group of 3 teenagers that survive the out break. The novel takes an apocalyptic view and and details the event of the 3 principle characters at the end of the year 1999 as plauge wipes out the ploutaion of London in the course of a few weeks. It was written during the Cold War as shares many aspects of the fears of the time. The principle charaters are Fran and her best friend, Harriet and a schoolmate Shahid. Jean Ure is a writer her books include Plaue 99, After the Plague, Big Tom, Family Fan Club, Shrinking Violet and Come lucky April ... A pandemic, or global epidemic, is an outbreak of an infectious disease that affects people over an extensive geographical area (from Greek pan all + demos people). ...


The Book has sequel set 100 years later called Come lucky April, which did not receive as much praise as the first by some readers.


Awards

Plague 99 won the Children's Book of the Year Award in 1990, and the Lancashire Book Award.
