The Platte Purchase, a historic region of the United States was the territory included the land between the Missouri River and the original state line. The land was ceded by the Sac and Fox in 1837, and U.S. President Martin Van Buren proclaimed the area part of Missouri. The Platte Purchase includes Andrew, Atchison, Buchanan, Holt, Nodaway and Platte counties.
