Encyclopedia > Playboy Videos

Playboy Videos are videos released by Playboy Enterprises, Inc., the publishers of Playboy magazine. The first videos were titled “Playboy Video Magazine” and 12 volumes were produced during the years 1982–1987. They borrowed the format of the magazine itself and included interviews, essays, journalism, and pictorials of beautiful women. Playboy is an adult entertainment magazine, or pornography magazine, founded in 1953 by Hugh Hefner, which has grown into Playboy Enterprises, Inc. ...

Calendars

In 1987 the magazine format was dropped and replaced by the video playmate calendar series which focused on the playmates themselves and did not try to imitate the content of the magazine. Although the months assigned to the playmates in the videos are not the same as the months in which they appear in the magazine, all playmates from 1987 have appeared in a playmate video calendar. Playmates of the year have also appeared in a special video profile dedicated just to themselves. A Playmate is a female model featured in Playboy magazine as Playmate of the Month. ...

Each video begins with an announcer saying (for example for the year 1997):

“Since 1958 Playboy calendars have been prized collector's items. Over the years Playmates have appeared in this favorite form of pinup art. Now for your home viewing pleasure, Playboy continues this tradition, as the playmates come alive in this edition of the 1997 playmate video calendar.”

Each playmate then appears in two vignettes.

Sexy Lingerie Series

Wet & Wild Series

1989 saw the release of the first video feature devoted exclusively to playmates and water, “Wet and Wild”. This proved to be such a popular hit that Playboy produced a further 9 videos which formed the “Wet & Wild” series, the final one being Wet & Wild: Slippery When Wet.

The first video featured playmates taking part in a variety of activities including sports such as surfing and sailing, being involved in more mundane tasks such as bathing, as well as acting out rather unusual fantasies as witnessed in the very first sequence of the series in which pirates Rebekka Armstrong and friends send their captives to their perils at the bottom of the sea. A number of exotic places including Tahiti and Cancún were chosen to film the playmates in, and as is common in many Playboy videos the locations were given as much attention as the playmates themselves. Although the majority of sequences in the early videos of the series retained a sense of eroticism, depicting the female figure as works of art, there were, even in the first video of series, certain sequences which could be described as being nothing more than mere pornography. A direct comparison could be made, for example, between the “Fantasy; Liquid Sensations”, or “Liquid Dreams” sequences in which the female figure is treated as landscape for the photographer, and the “Hot Wax” sequence in which playmates Rebekka Armstrong and Gianna Amore use first their clothes and then their bodies to wash a car. This article is about sea pirates. ... Rebekka Armstrong (born February 20, 1967 in Bakersfield, California) is a former Playboy Playmate, whose announcement in 1994 that she was HIV-positive made international headlines. ... Playboy continued to show erotic depictions of the female form and its interaction with water in “Wet and Wild II”; and although the choice of locations were less exotic than those in the first video, Playboy were more adventurous in the extent to which they used full frontal nudity. While in “Wet and Wild III” and “Wet and Wild IV” the use of highly choreographed dance routines in some scenes were more reminiscent of a music video. It was not until “Wet and Wild IV” that we saw a playmate (Tanya Beyer) taking part in a simulated sex scene which was a striking departure for Playboy as in all videos up to this point playmates had only been involved in activities which were seemingly unrelated to sexual activity. In “Wet and Wild V” the playmates returned to exotic locations, including Baja. A music video (also video clip, promo) is a short film meant to present a visual representation of a popular music song. ...
