Plummer is a city located in Benewah County, Idaho. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 990.

Plummer is located at 47°20'0" North, 116°53'4" West (47.333423, -116.884393)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.9 km² (1.1 mi²). 2.9 km² (1.1 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 990 people, 336 households, and 257 families residing in the city. The population density is 338.3/km² (875.2/mi²). There are 380 housing units at an average density of 129.8/km² (335.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 55.86% White, 0.71% African American, 39.29% Native American, 0.10% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, 0.81% from other races, and 3.13% from two or more races. 2.93% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 336 households out of which 38.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.4% are married couples living together, 17.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.5% are non-families. 19.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.95 and the average family size is 3.33.


In the city the population is spread out with 33.3% under the age of 18, 12.2% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 17.6% from 45 to 64, and 10.3% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 29 years. For every 100 females there are 96.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 88.6 males.


The median income for a household in the city is $28,438, and the median income for a family is $31,806. Males have a median income of $26,583 versus $20,357 for females. The per capita income for the city is $10,564. 22.0% of the population and 17.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 23.8% of those under the age of 18 and 18.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
