Also sometimes known at first as the 'Plumstead Peculiars', the sect was founded in 1838 by William Bridges.
A tenth part of this tithe went to the headquarters at Albury and the rest was used for the upkeep and growth of the movement.

It had been built and opened shortly before the Revolution, and superseded the old London Coffee House, as a principal place of resort and was the scene of many dinners, receptions and dances.
