The Battle of Podul Inalt (near the town of Vaslui, was an decisive battle in the medieval history of Romania. It took place in the year 1475, 10 of december , between the moldavian army lead by Stefan cel Mare and the ottoman army lead by the great sultan Mehmet II.Having put in practice a scourched earth tactic, the moldavians atracted the ottoman army deep into Moldavia. The ottoman army was about 120 000 men (including some forces of Laiota Basarab , the voievode of Wallahia, then subject to the ottomans, while the moldavian one was numbering aproximatelly 50 000 men, including some foreign mercenaryes from Hungary, and Poland.The battle was a very bloody one, and casualtyes where high on both sides.Howewer , facing an mostly exhausted ottoman army, the moldavians gained the upper hand and won the battle.Then, the ottomans fled in disorder toward the river Danube, closely beeing followed from behind by the moldavian light cavalry.
