Over the past few years, there have been talks of making significant changes to the park. Some feel the historic foundation of Fort Pitt - the exposure of which causes a deep trench in the grassy area closest to the city - should be filled in. They argue that it is a safety hazard and impedes the easy movement of crowds through the park. Such suggestions have been very controversial, and as such, no resolution has been reached.
