Poison Control Centers (PCC) provide immediate, free and expert treatment advice and assistance over the telephone in case of exposure to poisonous, hazardous or toxic substances. They can be called toll-free, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The US National Number is 1-800-222-1222. Your call will be routed to the PCC which covers your area.
Pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and poison information providers answer the phones.

The law allows a poisoncontrolcenter to contract with an entity in another state to provide poisoncontrol services if the center is unable to provide poisoncontrol services 24 hours a day; or the entity in the other state provides the same poisoncontrol services.
Chapter 177 of the Acts of 2006 (2006) continues the West Virginia PoisonCenter, operated by West Virginia University and certified by the American Association of PoisonCenters (or a similar organization), and exempts it from hiring freezes affecting the university.
