Encyclopedia > Pokanoket

The Pokanoket were one of the tribes that made up the Wampanoag peoples.

Massasoit, and his sons Wamsutta and Metacomet, were successively the sachem of the Pokanoket in the 17th century when they first treated with, and then made war upon, the British colonizers of what is now Massachusetts.
