Show Features

The show features coverage of online poker cash games, single table "sit and go" tournaments, and multi-table tournaments. The games featured are from the Prima Poker network of sites, and are broadcast with a short delay, with all players' cards visible. The presenters also discuss viewers' emails and text messages on poker issues. Prima Poker is the name of a network of online poker rooms that handles five to ten thousand players at any one time (as of 2005). ...


A regular feature since February, 2006 has been the "Beat The Presenter" tournament, in which one of the presenters plays a single table tournament while the programme is being broadcast, and then analyses their play along with their co-presenter after it is completed.


In 2006, Poker Night Live offered its regular online players the chance to win places in a special PokerBowl show. The six qualifiers visited the PokerZone studio to play in a "live" tournament. The show was broadcast in September 2006.

Canadian Version

In February 2006, a Canadian version was created for Casino and Gaming Television (CGTV). The Canadian version currently runs two hours, instead of the four hour run-time of the UK show. The format is similar with more focus on Sit and Go tournaments and No Limit Cash tables featuring Canadian players. The show airs live Wednesday to Sunday at 11:00pm to 1:00am EST. Repeat episodes are aired Monday and Tuesday at 11:00pm and 7 days a week from 4:30pm to 6:30pm. Live Poker On Canadian Television - 'Poker Night Live' | Poker News (564 words)
When you watch most of the televised poker that you find on the schedule, many times the events have been played out as much as a year previous to their premiere broadcast on television.
While there have been isolated attempts at televising live events, such as the 2004 broadcast of the Turning Stone $10,000 Championship Event or the two Full Tilt Poker invitational events last year (all on Fox Sports Network, interestingly), many poker events are a highly edited package of entertainment for the poker masses.
Canada's version of "Poker Night Live" should be something that "the powers that be" at the networks in the U. look at as an alternative to the canned productions that come out now.
