Administered by Ontario Parks, Polar Bear is the largest park in Ontario at 23,552 square kilometres. It lies on the western shore where James Bay joins Hudson Bay. It has no visitor facilities, is reachable only by air, and special permission is required before visiting it. It's primary purpose is the preservation of habitat for wildlife, especially the several hundred polar bears that migrate through the area. Sub-arctic conditions prevail in the park, which is the domain of woodland caribou, moose, marten, fox, beaver, goose, fl bear, and polar bear.
Landing permits must be obtained in advance for each of the park's four airstrips.
