Criticism

Many people in the more indie punk and hardcore scenes do not like this kind of music because they feel it is pandering to commercial appeal (major labels, television exposure), as well as bastardizing or commercializing forms of intended non-commercial or underground music. This form of music also has a negative stereotype due to the extremes of its fashion (some bordering on goth, others on late 80s hair bands). However, in defense of the fashion, these fans are no more ridiculous than followers of any other subcultures such as goth, ska, skinheads, crust punks or youth crew hardcore. There is also the perceived pretentiousness, "drama" and "emotionality" of these bands lyrics. However, their lyrics are bascially just variations on the classic hardcore "stabbed in the back" themes, but turned into songs about boy/girl relationships.
