Currently plans are being formulated for building a commercial district next to the historic district. The first proposal, which would have included a 30 story highrise building, was abandoned, in part due to protests of local residents. The current proposal is to build a 17 story condominium apartment building, a hotel, a theater, and about 39,000 square feet of retail space.
