During the War of Independence (1809-1825, see History of Bolivia) Potosi was frequently passed from the control of Royalist and Patriot forces.
Major blunders by the First Argentine Auxiliary Army (under the command of Castelli) led to an increased sense that independence was needed and fostered resentment towards Argentina.
During that occupation there was anarchy and martial excess, and Potosi became unfriendly to the point where it could not be defended.
Potosi Brewery is 100 Years Old (492 words)
POTOSI, Wis. — One hundred years ago an English immigrant, Gabriel Hale, found what he considered the ideal site for a brewery — a spring to furnish water, caves for aging and a region booming with lead miners for ready market.
The Potosi made two trips daily to Dubuque and back, carrying farmers and their produce in addition to the barrels of beer to market in Dubuque.
In 1900 the bottling department was added to the plant, eliminating much of the demand for the old "keg of beer" The bottles were packed in excelsior filled barrels and shipped by the railroad which had begun to serve the area in the late 1800's.
