Tanglang Quan (螳螂拳) was created by Wang Lang inspired by the insect's aggressiveness against it's opponents. Although the mantis was a small and feeble insect, using it's front legs it could subdue animals larger than itself.

One day, he observed the movements of a praying mantis fighting a cicada, and was inspired by the trapping and seizing movements of the mantis in capturing its larger prey.
He studiously prodded the mantis to learn its moves, and combined these with the eighteen styles of kung fu he had already mastered to create mantis style kung fu which he used to avenge his defeat.
Praying Mantis Kung Fu imitates the trapping movements of a mantis to maim its prey.
