The USL Premier Development League (PDL) is the amateur league of the United Soccer Leagues in the United States and Canada. It is popular with U.S. college players since they can play in it during the summer months and still maintain their collegiate eligibility. A maximum of eight players on each team's 26-man roster can be over 23 years old, and at least three players on each team's roster must be 18 or younger.

It's main purpose was to improve soccer capabilites to many urban areas throughout thr USA and Canada.
Today some of the PDL teams serve as farm teams to United Soccer Leagues and Major League Soccer clubs.
The PDL is one of five leagues under the umbrella of the USL.
PDL rosters must also include at least three players who are under the age of 19.
PDL teams also have the opportunity to compete against teams from Major League Soccer, the A-League and the D3 Pro League on an annual basis in exhibition games and in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup.
