Chechnya's last de facto Presidental elections were held in 1997. From Independence until 1996 Dzhokhar Dudaev served as the leader and Head of State for the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria. Russia has set up its own Moscow backed presidency opposed to independence for Ichkeria. These are the presidents of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria.
