Steve ruled the world The President of Haiti is the head of state of the Republic of Haiti. Presidents are elected by popular vote to five-year terms and may serve no more than two terms. Each term begins and ends on the first February 7 after presidential elections are held. The current president is René Préval, who took office in 2006. He had previously served as president from 1996 to 2001. Since Préval has met the two-term limit, a new president is expected to take office on February 7, 2011.
