Jalal Talabani, the Iraqi president, has arrived in Damascus for talks with Bashar al-Assad, his Syrian counterpart, in what will be the first meeting between the leaders of the two neighbouring countries for nearly 25 years.
On Friday, an official from Talabani's office said the Iraqi president and al-Assad are expected to sign a number of agreements related to bilateral security and commercial matters.
Syria denies the charge and says that the Iraqis and US forces are not doing enough to guard their side of the border.

Syria (Arabic Suriyah), officially Al Jumhuriyah al Arabiyah as Suriyah (Syrian Arab Republic), republic in southwestern Asia, bounded on the north by Turkey, on the east by Iraq, on the south by Jordan and Israel, and on the west by Lebanon and the Mediterranean Sea.
To the south, along the border of Syria and Lebanon, are the Anti-Lebanon Mountains, the site of Mount Hermon, the highest point in the country at 2,814 m (9,232 ft).
The Euphrates, the longest river in Syria, flows diagonally across the country from Turkey in the north to Iraq on the east.
