A l'heure des luttes d'influence entre les comtes du Genevois et du Faucigny, le fief des nobles de Presinge dont le territoire englobait le hameau de Puplinge, fut absorbé par le sire de Grailly, résidant à Ville-la-Grand et par le seigneur de Compeys, actuellement Compois.
En 1816, Presinge et Puplinge furent réunies de force en une seule et même commune, par le Traité de Turin.
L'initiative de la séparation fut prise par Presinge, dans une lettre adressée au Conseil d'Etat en 1850, signée de 64 habitants.
